History of Newspapers in Quincy:

In 1835, when Illinois had only 3 other newspapers, Judge R. M. Young issued his first weekly newspaper, The Bounty Land Register. The federal government had been awarding 160 acres as 'bounty' to veterans of the War of 1812.

By 1836, the newspaper had been sold and its name changed to the Argus, in about 1841 it became the Herald. In 1935 it was renamed the Quincy Herald Whig, which is its name today. Learn more here.
